At the 2018 State Convention on Sunday, April 8th, the Young Democrats of North Carolina (YDNC), along with the College Democrats of North Carolina (CDNC) and the North Carolina Association of Teen Democrats (NCATD) unanimously passed a resolution which calls for Representative Duane Hall to resign from the General Assembly and drop out of the race for reelection District 11 due to his pattern of sexual harassment.

The resolution states the following:

“Whereas Representative Duane Hall has been reported to have a pattern of inappropriate behavior, including unwanted physical and verbal sexual advances on numerous women working in North Carolina politics; and

Whereas Representative Hall has admitted to unwanted sexual conduct, specifically kissing a woman against her will; and

Whereas multiple people witnessed first-hand and attempted to intervene with Representative Hall harassing a woman at the 2016 Equality NC Gala; and

Whereas the Charlotte Observer editorial board wrote that “the allegations against Hall are substantial and credible” and “numerous, and they’re backed up by people willing to go on the record” and that “he should resign immediately”; and

Whereas Governor Roy Cooper and Chairman Wayne Goodwin have already called for his immediate resignation; and

Whereas over 30 party leaders, DNC representatives, and Democratic members of the State House and Senate from Senator Terry Van Duyn in the west to Representative Deb Butler in the east, have asked him to resign; and

Whereas Minority Leader Representative Darren Jackson specifically said “the allegations surrounding Representative Duane Hall are serious and the women involved deserve to be heard and supported,”

Whereas the Young Democrats of North Carolina reiterate our original statement which “condemns--in the strongest of terms--harassment, assault, and gender-based violence of any kind” and that “as both current and future leaders of the Democratic Party, we will not tolerate behavior from any leader which compromises our most deeply held values of dignity, fairness and justice”; and

Whereas, Representative Hall’s actions make it impossible for him to do the job he was elected to do representing Democratic values; and, most importantly,

Whereas this body should take immediate action to stand with the women of this party, especially with the young women who have bravely come forward to say that Time’s Up;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, for justice, fairness, and respect, and for the benefit of the YDNC and for the state of North Carolina, YDNC demands Representative Duane Hall should resign effective immediately and not continue to seek re-election.”
